"Certified by the artist, this teapot is crafted exclusively from original ore purple clay, sourced directly from the yellow dragon mountain (Huanglongshan) mineral veins. It contains no chemical additives or artificial colorants, ensuring a pure and healthy tea-brewing experience."

Why Original Ore Matters: Unlike mass-produced teapots, original ore Duan Ni is rich in iron, mica, and quartz. This high mineral content creates a dual-pore structure that 'breathes,' absorbing the bitterness of tea while amplifying its sweetness. Over years of use, the original ore clay will develop a deeper, natural patina that cannot be replicated by inferior materials.

The Legend of the Gong Chun Teapot (供春壶)

The Gong Chun is arguably the most legendary shape in Yixing history, named after the Ming Dynasty monk’s servant, Gong Chun, who is credited with creating the first Zisha teapot. The design mimics a tree gall (burl), symbolizing the rugged beauty and raw essence of nature. This specific pot features the iconic "tree bark" texture, a Lingzhi mushroom-shaped knob, and a 14-hole filter for a smooth, swift pour.

Best for: Aged White Tea (Peony/Shoumei), Oolong, Pu-erh, or Black Tea

About the Artist: Zhou Mingfei (周明飛)

The Artist's Pedigree: As a Certified Craft Artist (紫砂工艺师) in Yixing, Zhou Mingfei represents the backbone of contemporary Zisha art. His title is a testament to years of rigorous training and mastery over the complex "Flower and Nature" (Hua Huo) style. He is particularly renowned for his ability to recreate the organic, weathered textures of nature, as seen in the intricate "tree-burl" body of this Gong Chun teapot.

Zhou Mingfei is a respected craft artist based in Yixing, specializing in traditional "Hua Huo" (flower-and-nature) styles. Known for his meticulous hand-carving techniques, Zhou Mingfei excels at bringing organic textures to life. His works are characterized by a balance between the rustic aesthetics of ancient pottery and the precision of modern craftsmanship, making each piece a unique work of functional art.

Artist's Commitment: Zhou Mingfei is dedicated to the 'Old School' philosophy of Zisha art. He personally selects and oversees the aging of his original ore clay (Yuan Kuang), refusing to use modern 'blended' or 'chemically-enhanced' materials. This ensures that every Gongchun teapot he creates possesses the authentic breathability and 'living' quality that collectors demand.

Heritage: The Legend of Gong Chun (供春)

The Gong Chun teapot is considered the "ancestor" of all Yixing teapots. Its origin dates back to the Ming Dynasty (Zhengde period).

  • The Origin Story: Legend has it that a young manservant named Gong Chun accompanied his master to study at the Jinsha Temple in Yixing. While there, he observed a monk secretly crafting teapots from local purple clay.
  • Nature’s Inspiration: Fascinated, Gong Chun used the leftover clay to mimic the gnarled, weathered texture of a tree gall (burl) on an ancient gingko tree near the temple.
  • Cultural Impact: This shifted Yixing pottery from simple, smooth functional ware to a high art form that celebrated the "rustic elegance" favored by Chinese scholars and the literati. Today, owning a Gong Chun-style pot is a tribute to the very roots of Zisha history.

The Maker: Zhou Mingfei (周明飞)

Zhou Mingfei is a recognized craft artist within the Yixing pottery community, known for his specialization in the "Flower and Nature" (Hua Huo) style of Zisha art.

Artistic Philosophy: Zhou Mingfei is celebrated for his ability to translate organic, natural forms into functional teaware. His work on the Gong Chun shape is particularly noted for its realistic "tree bark" texture, which requires precise hand-carving and a deep understanding of how Duan Ni clay shrinks and changes during firing.

Craftsmanship: As a proponent of traditional techniques, Zhou Mingfei utilizes Fully Handmade construction. This means the body of your 260cc pot was formed without the use of molds, created instead through the meticulous "pounding" and "joining" of clay sheets—a process that ensures better breathability and a unique soul for every individual teapot.

Reputation: His works are sought after by collectors who value the "Wabi-sabi" aesthetic—finding beauty in imperfection and the rugged textures of the natural world.
