About the Artist – Cai Youqin (蔡有钦)
Born in 1985 in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, Cai Youqin comes from a family with a longstanding tradition of Chinese teapot craftsmanship.
According to his biography, his grandfather, Cai Jinji (蔡金记), was a third-generation inheritor of the family's traditional hand-pulled teapot-making craft.
Inspired by this artistic heritage, Cai Youqin brings together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics. His work reflects an appreciation for balanced proportions, restrained decoration and the natural beauty of clay.
The Zen Lantern Teapot embodies this philosophy, where a deceptively simple form reveals the skill and patience of its maker.
The teapot is accompanied by a handwritten document from the artist.
Zisha Teapot Introduction
Zisha (紫砂), commonly known as purple clay, is treasured in Chinese tea culture for its natural texture, distinctive mineral colours and unglazed finish.
Traditionally associated with Yixing, Zisha craftsmanship has influenced teapot makers across China, including artisans working within Chaozhou's rich tea culture.
The Zen Lantern Teapot combines the natural character of Zisha clay with a low, elegant silhouette, making it a distinctive companion for traditional Gongfu tea preparation.
With gentle use and proper care, the clay may gradually develop a soft, natural sheen.
To maintain your teapot, rinse with warm water after use and allow it to dry thoroughly before storing.
