Emperor’s Pot – Qin Quan Teapot

The Qin Quan Teapot—also known as the Emperor’s Pot—takes its name from the scale (“Quan”) used during the Qin Dynasty when Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified weights and measures. Its form resembles the ancient balance scale, symbolizing authority, stability, and order.

This classic Yixing pot shape is admired for its calm, powerful presence. The design is clean and steady, with a bridge-style knob that echoes the pot’s overall lines. The Qin Quan shape is known for its upright character, ancient charm, and strong visual weight—qualities that tea collectors call “the king of pots.”

Created originally in the Qing Dynasty by artisan Lin Yuan, the Qin Quan form quickly became beloved by makers and collectors alike. Its rustic silhouette and quiet strength make it one of the most reproduced classical shapes in Yixing history.

The Qin Quan is also famous in the world of Yixing art:

  • In 2010, a Qin Quan teapot by Gu Jingzhou, the legendary Zisha master, sold for $281,900 at Poly Auction.

  • Only seven of Gu’s Qin Quan pots are known to exist today, making the form even more iconic.

The Qin Quan remains timeless—simple, strong, balanced, and deeply rooted in Yixing teapot culture.

Yixing Zisha Teapot Introduction

Crafted in Yixing’s historic Dingshu Town, the Zisha teapot reflects a thousand years of Chinese tea culture and artisan tradition. Each piece is formed from naturally occurring purple clay—selected, refined, and shaped entirely by hand. Its distinctive colors, from vermillion to deep purple, arise purely from the clay’s own minerals, without any glaze or additives.

Zisha is prized for its purity and breathability. When brewing, the pot allows tea to release fuller aroma and softer, rounder flavor. Over time, it develops a gentle, natural sheen, becoming a personal companion that records every cup.

Simple to care for—rinse with warm water and let dry naturally—an Yixing teapot is both a functional tool and a refined collectible, appreciated by tea lovers and connoisseurs around the world.
