About the Artist – Du Chengping (杜成平)
Du Chengping is recognized as an outstanding young and middle-aged Yixing potter. His journey began in his teenage years when he first encountered Zisha teapots and became deeply captivated by their charm. In 1993, at the age of 20, he moved to the ceramic capital of Yixing to apprentice under established masters and dedicate himself to the art of Zisha craftsmanship.
With over 20 years of experience, Du’s works have grown increasingly mature and expressive. His artistic philosophy follows the principle of “learning from the ancients without being constrained by the past”. His large teapots are known for their dignified, powerful presence, while his smaller works are admired for their elegance and refined beauty.
He is respected for both his craftsmanship and his character—humble, earnest, and sincerely devoted to the world of Zisha.
Zisha Teapot Introduction
Yixing Zisha teapots are traditional handmade teaware crafted from natural Purple Clay found only in Dingshu Town, Yixing, China. With over 1,000 years of history, Zisha clay is valued for its excellent porosity, heat retention, and ability to enhance tea aroma.
Each teapot is made from mineral-rich unglazed Zisha claystone, ground and blended by hand. The clay’s natural colors—purple, red, yellow, or tricolor—come from the clay itself rather than paint or glaze.
Benefits of Zisha Teapots:
· Improves tea flavor and aroma over time
· Maintains color and taste even in hot weather
· Ideal for oolong, pu-erh, black, green, and floral teas
· Fully handmade, collectible, and highly durable
Care:
Rinse with warm water only. Do not use soap, as Zisha clay absorbs scents. If odors appear, rinse with boiling water and cool immediately.
A Yixing Zisha teapot is both functional teaware and a collectible piece of Chinese craftsmanship, treasured by tea lovers worldwide.
