Glass Teapots: The Art of Visual Brewing
There is nothing quite as meditative as watching tea leaves dance and unfurl in hot water. Our Glass Teapots are designed for the modern tea lover who values both aesthetics and precision. At Jiangnan Sourcing, we select only high-quality, borosilicate glass vessels that offer crystal-clear transparency and exceptional thermal shock resistance.
Why Choose Glass for Your Tea?
While clay and porcelain have their traditions, glass offers a unique set of advantages for both beginners and connoisseurs:
- The "Visual" Experience: Perfect for Flowering Teas (Display Teas), silver needle white teas, or large-leaf Oolongs. Glass allows you to judge the strength of your brew by its color alone.
- Flavor Purity: Glass is completely non-porous and chemically inert. It will never absorb flavors or odors, making it the ultimate tool for tasting the "true" profile of a new tea.
- Versatility: Transition easily from a delicate Green tea to a bold Black tea simply by rinsing the pot. One glass teapot can serve your entire tea collection.
- Heat Resistance: Our pots are made from lab-grade borosilicate glass, meaning they can go from boiling water to cold surfaces without cracking.
Design Meets Function
Our collection includes a variety of styles to suit your brewing ritual:
- Removable Infusers: Choose from glass, stainless steel, or coil filters to keep leaves out of your cup.
- Gongfu Style: Small-capacity glass pots designed for the quick, multiple infusions of the Gongfu ceremony.
- Stovetop Safe: Many of our models are designed to be used directly on electric ceramic stoves, allowing you to keep your tea at a simmer.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is glass better than clay for brewing tea?
Neither is "better," but they serve different purposes. Clay is best for retaining heat and "seasoning" a specific tea. Glass is best for seeing the tea leaves and for teas where you want to appreciate the vibrant color, such as Green, White, or Herbal teas.
2. Can I put my glass teapot directly on the stove?
Most of our borosilicate glass teapots are heat-resistant; however, they are generally intended for electric ceramic stoves or candle warmers rather than high-flame gas stoves. Please check the specific product details for "Stovetop Safe" ratings.
3. How do I prevent my glass teapot from getting cloudy?
Cloudiness is usually caused by mineral buildup from hard water. To keep your pot sparkling, rinse it with warm water after use. For deep cleaning, use a mixture of water and lemon juice or white vinegar to dissolve mineral spots.
4. Does glass break easily with boiling water?
We use borosilicate glass, which has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means it will not crack when you pour boiling water into it, even if the pot is cool.
5. Are glass teapots dishwasher safe?
While many are technically dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing to prevent the glass from clinking against other dishes and to keep the surface from becoming etched or scratched over time.
