Qi Lan (Miracle Orchid) Wuyi Black Tea
Qi Lan (Miracle Orchid) Wuyi Black Tea
Regular price $12.95

The Aromatic Intersection of Oolong and Black Tea Experience the JiangnanSourcing Qi Lan (Miracle Orchid), a rare and adventurous black tea that defies traditional boundaries. Crafted from the Qi Lan cultivar—historically reserved for the finest Wuyi Rock Oolongs—this experimental black tea offers a complexity and "Rock Rhyme" minerality rarely found in the black tea category.

A Symphony of Caramel and Incense Unlike standard black teas that focus on simple maltiness, Qi Lan Black Tea is an aromatic powerhouse. Each infusion reveals:

  • The Palette: An intense, honey-caramel sweetness balanced by a savory, nutty hint of toasted chestnut.
  • The Fragrance: A lingering bouquet of ripe forest fruits underpinned by a meditative note of fine incense.

  • The Texture: A sophisticated, medium-bodied tea that retains the distinct mineral backbone of its Oolong heritage.

For the curious palate, this tea offers an intriguing "middle ground," combining the comforting warmth of a black tea with the floral soul of a Wuyi Rock Oolong. Explore this unique harvest at www.jiangnansourcing.com.

Oolong or Black Tea? The Qi Lan Hybrid

A common question for enthusiasts is whether Qi Lan is an Oolong or a Black Tea. While the Qi Lan (Miracle Orchid) cultivar is traditionally the soul of Wuyi Rock Oolong, this specific selection is fully oxidized and processed strictly as a black tea.

The Best of Both Worlds This unique processing creates a "hybrid" sensory experience that sits at the intersection of two categories:

  • Oolong Heritage: Seasoned drinkers will instantly recognize the distinct mineral backbone and "Rock Rhyme" (Yan Yun) that characterizes Wuyi mountain varieties.

  • Black Tea Craft: Because it undergoes full fermentation, it delivers the honeyed sweetness and robust body of a premium black tea.

This "Miracle Orchid" black tea is an intriguing choice for curious palates, offering the floral complexity of an Oolong with the comforting warmth of a Gongfu black tea.

The JiangnanSourcing Qi Lan is a testament to modern tea innovation in Fujian. Originally developed in the 1990s in Pinghe, the Qi Lan cultivar was brought to the Wuyi region for its intense aromatic potential.

Our maker—a specialist in Wuyi small-batch experimentation—intentionally chose this Oolong plant to craft a black tea. By utilizing a slow-firing technique and high-degree oxidation, the maker transforms the orchid-like fragrance of the raw leaf into the deep, caramel and stone-fruit notes found in the finished cup.
